Just in case anybody is wondering why there is such an outcry over this Christian protest stuff, it’s not a mystery, and it’s not hard to figure out. One need only take a quick peek into the scriptures to find the answer:
19 The creation waits eagerly for the sons of God to be revealed; 20 for the creation was made subject to frustration — not willingly, but because of the one who subjected it. But it was given a reliable hope 21 that it too would be set free from its bondage to decay and would enjoy the freedom accompanying the glory that God’s children will have. 22 We know that until now, the whole creation has been groaning as with the pains of childbirth. Romans 8
When Jesus is seen, He is unmistakable, and what results within the human heart is unmistakable. When He is professed to be in a situation, and a crowd turns out to see Him but it turns out not to actually be Him, that’s called, plainly and simply, a rip off. When someone feels ripped off, the natural, normal reaction is to cry out against it.
Now is this so hard to understand?
I’m going to say this, and say it as loudly and as often as I can possibly say it: This whole gay marriage protest thing does not belong in the conversations of follwers of Christ. Jesus did not call us to take up a cause and protest. He called us to take up our cross and follow Him. Following Him means first and foremost following His example: the example as set forth in the Gospels. He did not single out any one people group and hold up a picket sign in protest of what they were doing and saying. He didn’t do it, people! You can look, and look, and look throughout the gospels to try and find an example of these modern-day Christian protests, and you will not, will not, will not find it!! It’s not there!! It’s a distraction, people!! It’s a smokescreen preventing us from truly minstering the gospel (gospel means good news) thus preventing people from truly seeing Jesus, and you know what? That’s the greatest tragedy of all, and you know what else? It stinks, really reeks to high heaven!
We’re all high-fiving each other thinking this whole protest thing is the good Christian thing to do. But all it’s really doing is creating bad feelings and strife. If anything, just look at the results; look at the fruit of it. If that can’t telling us anything, then here’s what Jesus said it makes us: it makes us the blind leading the bleeding blind!
Stop it already! Get a grip – on the cross!!
The gospel is a call to all. The code of conduct as laid out in the biblical texts is a guideline for believers to follow, to make us a light and an example, just as Christ is a light and example. The onus is on us to obey, not the world that hasn’t yet come to know and believe. If anyone is to see that light that lights up all men and come to believe also, then we are to teach them to follow the teachings of Christ once they come to believe. That’s how this thing is set up to work. It’s a model that has worked throughout the ages since Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. We think we can improve on Christ’s model? Really?? All I can truly say to that is this: Have fun bleeding in that ditch…I’m outta here!
